Internet Browser of Choice
If you're not already using Firefox from Mozilla (Mac or PC) I suggest you download it now. It's a great lightweight alternative to IE and gives you (the user) more control over your browsing experience. Currently just over 26% of all visitors to my websites are using Firefox and Safari (3%).
Now that you're a Mozilla convert; ever get ANNOYED!! at trying to read say a news site, only to be constantly bombarded by Flash animations. Install Flashblock and only watch the files you want to see! What's more you can allow flash from nominated sites and it saves your bandwidth for the important stuff as the files are not downloaded until you click on them.
Is your Windows PC Secure?
It's important to protect your computer from viruses, keyloggers and trojans. A couple of recommended free options are Spybot Search & Destroy and AVG also offer a free version of their antivirus software.
Spybot Search & Destroy - follow the instructions to download and install. Think about donating while you are there - they are making a safer online world for us all!
AVG Free - It's not as lightweight as it used to be but it works OK.
Another option that is highly recommended by many experts is NOD32. It's lightweight and minimal on system resources. It's not free but you can trial it for 30 days. You can find the Australian site here.
